THE THEORY TEST IS IN TWO PARTS
1 MULTIPLE CHOICE:
CONSISTING OF 50 QUESTIONS WITH A PASS MARK OF 43 OUT OF 50 QUESTIONS (THESE QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED BY "TOUCH SCREEN") IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE YOUR TIME, YOU WILL HAVE 57 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS PART OF THE TEST. THERE WILL BE A SHORT INTRODUCTORY CLIP EXPLAINING FULLY HOW TO ANSWER. THERE ARE NUMEROUS RESOURCES AVAILABLE REGARDING THIS (SEE THE VARIOUS LINKS WE PROVIDE)
- TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ EACH QUESTION THROUGHLY BEFORE ANSWERING.
- IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF AN ANSWER THEN "FLAG" IT AND COME BACK TO IT LATER.
- LOOK AT EACH ANSWER CAREFULLY, ONLY ONE ANSWER WILL BE CORRECT, TWO ANSWERS WILL BE "DISTRACTION ANSWERS", AND ONE VERY NEAR THE CORRECT ANSWER. (REMEMBER YOU CAN ALWAYS FLAG A QUESTION AND COME BACK TO IT)
2 HAZARD PERCEPTION
AFTER A SHORT PAUSE FROM THE MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION SET YOU WILL MOVE ONTO THIS PART. THERE ARE 14 SHORT VIDEO CLIPS BUT 15 "SCORING" HAZARDS. SO ONE OF THE 14 CLIPS WILL HAVE 2 SCORING HAZARDS IN IT, SO KEEP WATCHING CAREFULLY UNTIL THE END OF EACH CLIP. YOU NEED TO SCORE 44 out of 75 TO PASS THIS PART OF THE TEST.
EACH CLIP HAS A MAXIMUM SCORE OF 5 POINTS.
- "CLICK" THE MOUSE BUTTON FOR EVERY POTENTIAL HAZARD THAT YOU SEE THAT YOU THINK MIGHT "DEVELOP", FOR EXAMPLE: YOU SEE A CYCLIST RIDING ON A PAVEMENT YOU WOULD CLICK THIS AS THE CYCLIST MIGHT SUDDENLY MOVE INTO THE ROAD AHEAD OF YOU. IF AND WHEN THIS MIGHT HAPPEN THE "SCORING" WINDOW WILL OPEN.
- IF YOU IDENTIFY "POTENTIAL" HAZARDS THAT START TO "DEVELOP" EARLY ENOUGH THE HIGHER YOUR SCORE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO CLICK AND PAUSE AND THEN CONTINUE TO CLICK AND PAUSE UNTIL THE SCORING WINDOW CLOSES. (NOTE: DO NOT CLICK WITH ANY RHYTHM (TAP/TAP/TAP) THE COMPUTER WILL REGISTER THIS AS INCORRECT AND "SCORE ZERO" FOR THAT CLIP.
- DO NOT CLICK THE MOUSE MORE THAN 15 TIMES WITHIN THE SCORING WINDOW, THE COMPUTER WILL REGISTER ZERO.
- DO NOT CLICK THE MOUSE FOR INANIMATE OBJECTS OR EVERY SIDE ROAD (UNLESS A VEHICLE WAS APPROACHING AT SPEED)
- CLICK ONLY THOSE THINGS THAT DEVELOP, WHERE YOU NEED TO RESPOND TO THE SITUATION, SUCH AS A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING THE ROAD IN FRONT OF YOU.
